    The aptly named Belle-Île-en-Mer (‘beautiful island in the sea’) is the largest island in the French region of Brittany. It’s known as the orchard of Hardanger and in spring the hillsides are covered in white blossoms, while in summer the trees are laden with fruit, including the juiciest apples.
